With quarantining rules in England being relaxed from July 19th and foreign summer holidays potentially now very back on the cards for many, now is the time to work on that ‘summer ready beach body’ and what better way to do it than to get out and walk / run whatever tickles your fancy and step into summer!
At HATS, approximately 100 colleagues have come together with friends and family of little George and have teamed up to help raise much needed funds for this exceptional little man – so he can benefit from a better quality of life by receiving some much-needed surgery.
For those of you who don’t know about George’s story – ‘he was born 10 weeks early along with his twin sister, but unfortunately George’s arrival led to him getting brain damage and at 4 weeks old he was diagnosed with PVL (Periventricular Leukomalacia) which in turn has led to Quad Cerebral Palsy (CP) and Epilepsy.
George is a very happy, smiley boy but has limited movement due to his CP, but after assessing him for a year, the fabulous Doctors and team at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital have concluded that George is an ideal candidate for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery: a gruelling 4-hour operation which involves cutting nerves close to the spinal cord to help eliminate the tightness in his legs, helping him have a greater range of motion and lead to a better quality of life. After the surgery, George will also need intensive physio almost daily – for a year!’
Neither the surgery nor physio are available on the NHS – in fact, the surgeon only comes to the UK twice a year from America to perform this operation, as no surgeon in the UK is able to currently carry it out!’
So, at HATS we thought we’d help George as we help ourselves to shed some of the lockdown pounds (both in weight & money😊) by stepping out together during July, to raise some much-needed funds for George.
One week in, the response and effort has been truly amazing, we’ve just passed the 5,000,000 (5 million steps) mark and have already received pledges for well over £3,600 (we’re trying to raise £10,000), so we’re off to a great start, but we need more!!
Please join us on George’s journey and step out or better still 😊 contribute what you can afford at: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/georgesjourney2?utm_term=AYrBry96K
A massive Thank you – in advance from George and all at Team HATS.
